Daniel honoured for saving Megan’s life

A DRIVER who saved an 11-year-old girl who had been knocked down in front of his truck has been given an award for his actions.

Daniel Ogden leapt into action when he saw schoolgirl Megan Tchewkwa hit by a car as he drove through Leeds city centre last December. The 25-year-old drive, who lives in Royton, rushed to Megan’s aid, started her breathing and kept her conscious before emergency services arrived.

Daniel, a driver with Bidvest Logistics, in Royton, said: “I saw she was seriously injured. There was blood everywhere and she wasn’t breathing so I knew I had to do something. I performed CPR, got her breathing and tried to keep her talking, but she kept drifting in and out of consciousness before a nurse arrived.”

Emergency services told Daniel he had saved the girl’s life. Daniel, who received first aid training during his time as an infantry soldier in the Army, said: “I was very worried about her after she was taken to hospital. I was very happy when the police called me a few days later and said she was doing well.

Daniel received a special award at the Bidvest Logistics Royton annual awards evening - whose special guest was Megan herself, who presented him with his prize.

He said: “It was a very emotional evening. She told me how grateful she was.”
