Cabbie injured in crash

A TAXI driver was taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital after a serious accident in Chadderton last night.

The man suffered suspected neck injuries following the two-car crash in Manchester Road at the junction with Drury Lane.

Passengers in the second vehicle, a silver Ford Fiesta, were given precautionary checks by the ambulance service.

Firefighters from Chadderton attended the incident at around 6.30pm and worked to release the cabbie from the blue Toyota Avensis.

Watch officer Andy Guilfoyle said: "The door of the taxi was damaged to the front of the vehicle and we cut off the door so we could release the driver."

Position
A section of the road was closed off and police diverted traffic along Chapel Road.

Eric Eastham, who contacted the emergency services, said: "I really hope all involved are OK and that the taxi driver doesn't have any long-lasting injuries.

"Regardless of what we are doing in our daily lives, and whether we are involved or not, if we see fellow human beings or animals hurt and in need we should stop doing what we are doing and help because one day we could be in that position."
