Specialist pool for school

A NEW £2.2m hydrotherapy pool is scheduled to be installed at a Chadderton school for children with severe learning difficulties.

Children at Kingfisher Special School, in Foxdenton Lane, will benefit from the new heated pool which is designed to provide pain relief and improve fitness levels.

The pool will be built following the demolition of existing buildings after councillors voted unanimously in favour of plans.

Conservative councillor John Hudson said: "I think this is an absolute necessity."

The school launched a campaign last year to replace its existing pool which is several decades old but is yet to hit its £500,000 target to top up donations.

Two outbuildings between the school's boundary and Foxdenton Lane will be demolished and a single-storey side extension of up to 19.5m high will be built to house the new pool. A glazed roof will be added to the existing internal courtyard to provide extra learning space for pupils.
