AN INDIAN takeaway in Chadderton linked up with a church to provide food for people in need.

The New Polash, Drury Lane, served up dishes at the weekly King's Kitchen, which is held at Christ Church, Block Lane, from 12.45am to 2pm on Mondays.

The initiative, organised by a team of volunteers led by Linda and Jeff Nuttall, provides a meal for people in the community who may be experiencing issues such as homelessness, health problems or benefit cuts. They can also get advice on various services which can help them.

The food is usually supplied by the church, but New Polash stepped in for a week. Mofozzul Imran Choudhury from the takeaway said: "The current world is dangerous because of the rise of extremism and far right political groups. British communities of all colours and faith should work together for British people in every possible way, which is why we got involved for this event."
