Sub-station probe delay

Date published: 20 January 2012

THE court case of a man accused of causing £40,000 worth of damage to an electricity sub-station has been delayed.

James Tulley (49), of Deal Walk, Chadderton, appeared before magistrates yesterday charged with entering Fernhurst Electricity sub-station as a trespasser with intent to steal.

It’s said once in the station, on July 17, last year, he caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to 6600V HV switch gear belonging to Electricity North-West. The case was adjourned for six weeks for evidence to be gathered. Mr Tulley was granted unconditional bail.

If found guilty he should be made to pay for the damage he caused in full. Why should criminals get away with a token payment instead of a full reckoning? Of course we know that the answer is that it might deter them from reoffending and giving the greedy lawyers their nice fat fees!
