Date published: 07 February 2012

CHADDERTON Town crier Reg Lord reads out a proclamation to mark the start of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations yesterday.

The event, at Chadderton Town Hall, was organised by the local historical society and guests included Oldham’s deputy mayor Councillor Olwen Chadderton and consort Roy Chadderton, youth mayor Chantel Birtwistle, and the Chadderton prince and princess, Max Butterworth and Jade Chadwick.

Also at the ceremony were members of the Chadderton branch of the Royal British Legion and councillors.

Hold onto your hats, the train now leaving will be calling at obsequious, fawning, toadying, sycophantic, and unduly reverential, before arriving at our final destination – pointless anachronism.

Proud to be British, God save the Queen from the rable
