Killer ‘trapped by a very smart plan’

AN illegal immigrant who killed his wife in Chadderton believed he was “trapped by a very smart plan” according to statements given to police following his arrest.

Jahingar Nazar killed his wife by stabbing her 19 times in the neck while her six-year-old son slept in the next bedroom in April, 2013.

In statements heard at Manchester Crown Court yesterday, Nazar told officers in Newcastle, where he was arrested on April 23, he feared being blamed. He said his wife’s lover, who was outside their home at the time, must have been responsible.

The defendant pleaded guilty to manslaughter but not guilty to murder on the grounds of diminished responsibility after his wife Farkhanda Younis, known to friends as Jabeen, was found dead at the pair’s Bamford Street home.

A doctor who examined Nazar said he showed no sign of mental instability in the days following the attack.

Speaking via video link from Sunderland Magistrates’ Court, Dr Naweed Sattar, said he assessed Nazar after his arrest and saw no sign of depression or mental imbalance.

Nazar, who was given special dispensation to remain in the UK until April, admitted to being scared of his residency status and blamed Jabeen’s numerous injuries on her other lovers.

He said the relationship with his “promiscuous” wife was ruined by interference from ithr people.

Nazar said the pair had a drunken row during which Jabeen slammed a door on his hand while he was holding a glass, which cut him. He washed his hand in the bathroom and went back to the bedroom to collect his jacket, he said -at which point, he claimed, his wife was “absolutely fine”.

Nazar then fled to the North-East.

Pathologist Dr Naomi Carter, who carried out the post mortem on Jabeen said the broken blade of a knife was found in the wounds.

Nazar was due to give evidence in court today.
