Young music stars come out to play

TALENTED musicians from across the borough hit the right note at Oldham Music Centre’s second annual Summer Music Festival featuring more than 50 live performances.

Taking place at Newman College in Chadderton, the event was a huge hit providing a vast selection of genres from brass to rock.

People of all ages turned out to showcase their musical talent with bands and vocal groups from the music centre and pupils from Newman College all performing.

Gerard Booth, director of music for Oldham, said: “We have been really lucky with the weather again this year and we have had fantastic performances inside and out.

“We have had a massive range of stuff as well from string to rock.

“The musicians have been outstanding and we are really grateful for all the people that have come to support us today.

“The Music Centre is very grateful to the staff of Newman College who have all welcomed us into their magnificent school for the day.

Brilliant

After the successful 2013 festival, it was an easy decision for us to return to the venue again this year.”

As well as a the huge array of live music performances also on offer was a craft fair, rock-climbing, donkey rides and face painting.

Colin Walsh, who attended with his children, said: “It’s absolutely brilliant to see all the musical talent Oldham has to offer. We have had a lovely time.”
