YOUNG people will be able to learn about life in Chadderton in years gone by with a £40,800 lottery grant.
Research, workshops, training, educational visits and a major exhibition on local history will be the result of the Heritage Lottery Fund money.
The “Step Back in Time” project, developed by Fullcircle North West, Chadderton Historical Society and Oldham Council’s Chadderton District Youth Team, with involve 25 young people who will compare the lives of young people today with their counterparts of 1914. Participants have already undertaken a photography course so they can document their research.
The money will also pay for things such as studio hire for film-making, historical costumes, staff costs and coach trips to research top historical attractions such as the Imperial War Museum.
The project will culminate with an interactive exhibition at Chadderton Town Hall in July. The young people themselves will decide how the project is carried out.
Fullcircle NW, which submitted the bid, is a community interest company which runs projects for young people, residents and local community groups.
Sara Hilton, head of the Heritage Lottery Fund North West, added: “We are delighted to support such an innovative project.”
