Martial arts team takes home a mass of medals

A TALENTED local martial arts team fought their way to more than 100 medals at a world championship competition in Italy.
The team of 16 from The DOJO Karate Centre flew home from the Unified World Championships in Tuscany with a total of 109 medals - 54 gold, 32 silver and 23 bronze. The squad consists of members of many ages, including seven-year-old prodigies Richard Reygan and Mark Craven, to karate veterans aged 43.
The team, which trains every Saturday at Chadderton Wellbeing Centre, were led by Sensei Irfan Ansari and two volunteer helpers, Lee Jolliffe and Diane Reygan, along with other supporters who travelled to watch them compete.
