A FORMER partner of an alleged sadistic, and abusive womaniser sobbed as she described how he had regularly abused her.

The 28 year old told a hushed Manchester courtroom how Iqbal Ali would force her to wear a gag to stop her screaming as he poured boiling water on her. At othe times he handcuff her and strangled her into unconciousness.

A crown court jury was told 32-year old Ali, of Broadway, Chadderton, had subjected his former partner and three other girl friends to physical, psychological and sexual abuse over a period of around 10 years. He was arrested after his last victim — the first to give evidence against him — almost died because of the injuries he had inflicted.

The victim described how the jealous and possessive Ali controlled and dominated her in every way. As with his other victims, he demanded sexual gratification and would mete out punishment for refusal.

She was a virtual prisoner in the house, and when she went out to work - as a teaching assistant at an Oldham school - he insisted she texted him constantly to keep tabs on her.

Once, she revealed, he made her sit in front of a video camera and told her not to move until he returned. When he did he played the tape back to see she had not. She told prosecutor David Toal she was afraid of what he would do if she had moved

She related how he would throw out items of sentimental value if she displeased him, that after they were living together he announced he already had a girlfriend and a child and that they were all going to live together, and how he encouraged her to befriend a young woman she had met on a bus so he could sleep with her.

Ali pleads not guilty to 25 offences: 13 counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, four of rape, two of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent, two of indecent assault, two of common assault, and two of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear.

The trial continues.
