Flats death: Man had stab wounds in chest

A 44-year-old man who was found dead at a block of flats in Chadderton had suffered stab wounds.

A post-mortem took place yesterday to establish whether the fatal blows, which went through the man’s clothes and into his heart, were inflicted by himself or someone else.

The Chronicle reported yesterday how police were called to Middleton Road shortly before 4.10pm on Wednesday, following concerns for the man’s welfare.

The death is being treated as suspicious and all lines of inquiry remain ongoing.

Neighbours spoke of their shock yesterday.

Resident of seven years, Shalton Ngwenya, said: “He kept himself to himself. I used to hear him playing music sometimes.

“He had his girlfriend round quite a lot but I saw her the other day and she was crying.

“I think they might have split up.”

Trevor Edgehill, who has lived at the flats for 14 years, said: “I found out yesterday.

“I went to the shop then came back and all the police were downstairs. I asked them what was going on and I couldn’t believe it. It’s terrible.

I hadn’t seen him for a few days.”

“He was a nice man. I used to see him when he was going to the shops. He normally kept himself to himself.”

One distraught resident, who did not wish to be named, said: “I was close to him and used to see him a lot.

“I can’t really say much more at the moment because I’m too shocked and upset about it.”
