The Orchestra sets up shop in the main hall of Newman College.
IF young musicians in the borough weren’t inspired before, they certainly were after spending a day with some of the country’s most talented teenagers.
The National Youth Orchestra’s Inspire Orchestra joined Oldham and Bury youth orchestras at Newman College in Chadderton for a day of music.
The 70-strong Inspire Orchestra has been touring the country to allow more teenage musicians and audiences to experience orchestral music-making.
Nick Thorne, from NYO — 165 musicians aged 13-19 from all over the UK - said: “The aim is to inspire teenagers to play in an orchestra. Instead of just playing in concert halls we’re going to the hub of things.”
Newman College head of music Mike Edwards said: “It’s just great to see music filling the school. This is the largest music ensemble to have played in the school. Events like these capture the imagination and encourage younger pupils to take part.”
