Eric’s charity legacy burns bright

In the months after Eric Armitage (61) succumbed to a devastating neurological condition, over £7,000 has been raised in his memory,

Chadderton man Eric and his family vowed to help fellow sufferers of the terminal disease, multiple system atrophy, which leaves its victims needing round-the-clock care, by raising as much money for the MSA Trust’s research as possible.

This week the total nears £35,000 and Eric’s wife, Angela, has vowed to spend the rest of her life trying to achieve promises made in their final conversation in March.

Angela said: “We’ve currently raised £34,929, over £7,000 since Eric passed away. How amazing is that? I can’t believe it. I promised Eric I would raise a million. It might be an impossible dream, but I’ll die trying.

“It’s been horrendous since Eric passed away. My days were filled looking after him. I gave up my job and couldn’t go out much socially, so now the days are long and lonely. But I’m determined I will come through this.”
