A CHADDERTON teaching assistant has escaped jail despite having sex with a pupil.
Caroline Berriman (30) had an affair with the boy, who cannot be named, while working at Abraham Moss Community School in Crumpsall last year. She was suspended when the allegations were made and has since left the school.
Berriman pleaded guilty at Manchester Crown Court to two counts of sexual activity with a child and one of sexual activity with a child by a person in a position of trust. She was given a two-year suspended sentence and must complete 250 hours of community work. She was also ordered to pay a £100 victim surcharge and made the subject of a restraining order, which bans her from seeing or contacting the victim, who has since left the school.
