HIVE of activity . . . Diane Drinkwater, Cartmel Crescent Allotment Apiary

Oldham beekeepers have been given over £4,600 in funding.

First Choice Homes Oldham’s Respect Our Community Awards has given the money to Cartmel Crescent Allotment Apiary Project to create a safe apiary area in south Chadderton for bee-keeping training.

The project aims to spread knowledge of bees and give locals an understanding of the importance of bees. Volunteers hope to keep the project running through the sale of honey.

FITS like a Glove, a Sholver-based project run by the CHARISMA group, has also received a cheque, for £4,416. The money will be used to provide high-quality learning activities to help raise aspirations and support young people. Initial projects include a “boxercise” class for six to 11-year-olds and arts and crafts for families.
