CHADDERTON’S MasterChef champion Simon Wood plans to let his fine food do the talking as he prepares for his official book launch tomorrow.

The executive chef at Oldham Athletic is putting the finishing touches to a new five-course menu to be presented to guests at Oldham Event Centre in the club’s new North Stand .

Simon’s debut cookbook, “At Home with Simon Wood”, hit shelves this week after a year in which he has carried out hundreds of interviews following his triumph on TV.

He admits that while he’s confident with his expertise in the kitchen, he has a few nerves about the question-and-answer session that forms part of the launch evening.

“Cooking for around 80 people is a challenge but I have no nerves around food any more; MasterChef dealt with those,” he said.

“The challenging bit will be once service is over and the questions start coming in. You just never know what people are going to ask. I’m OK with food-related questions, but you get some really strange ones too.”

The night will start with bubbly on arrival before Alan Nield from Revolution Radio comperes the evening, followed by the five courses and the live Q&A.
