TRAVELLERS descended upon Chadderton yesterday.

The convoy descended upon the area as they settled on the land between Chadderton Way and Broadway. Oldham Council has issued the travellers with a notice to vacate the site.

Cllr Barbara Brownridge, cabinet member for neighbourhoods and cooperatives, said: "We acted swiftly as soon as we were made aware of the issue and have worked with Greater Manchester Police to address it.

"The Council provided information to the unauthorised encampment with regards to welfare and to inform them to vacate the land.

"GMP served a legal notice for them to vacate within 24 hours.

"The travellers have been co-operative with the council and police and have been respectful to the area."
