Traditional fly-fishing
There are few more beautiful settings than the delightful Castleshaw valley in Saddleworth.
High above the village of Delph and below the ridge that carries the Pennine Way to Stanedge, the two Castleshaw reservoirs nestle at the head of the valley.
Oldham United Anglers fish the 28-acre lower reservoir for rainbow and brown trout.
Traditional fly-fishing is the only method allowed on the water, as members seek to preserve the angling skills of an earlier age.
Though members can kill two fish per visit, catch and release is also enshrined in the club rules.
The club has only a small membership, but applications from prospective members are always welcome.
