Boss explains ’keeper’s recall

BEN AMOS
PAUL Dickov has spelled out the circumstances which led to Manchester United recalling Ben Amos.
The 20-year-old goalkeeper was brought back to Old Trafford thanks to his former status as a youth loan player, which would have changed next week.
A 24-hour release clause existed and this allowed United to call on Amos to act as cover for Anders Lindegaard, who is set to be out of action for five weeks with a knee injury.
“I would thank United and Ben for letting us have him,” said Dickov.
“Unfortunately, Lindegaard has picked up an injury that needs an operation and at a club like United you need three ’keepers — one to play, one on the bench and one in case anything else happens.
“Because of the way the loan worked out, Ben was initially here on a youth loan. That was due to end next week, then he would have been here on another loan until the end of the season.
“After next week, if anything did happen at United there wouldn’t be any call-back. So they have exercised their right to do it now.”
