Defeat in Harkins bid

LEE Johnson has accepted defeat in his bid to bring Gary Harkins back to Athletic permanently.
The Scot, whose contract at St Mirren was terminated by mutual agreement late last week, has instead joined his former club Dundee on a two-year deal.
Harkins (29) scored five goals on loan with Athletic last season and had been expected to return to Boundary Park permanently.
But Athletic were unable to match the terms offered to the fans’ favourite.
“He (Harkins) had quite a few suitors after leaving St Mirren,” Johnson said.
“We just can’t offer him the same level of deal.”
