Screen-ing process
Date published: 04 February 2016
ATHLETIC have announced a fan-funding project to provide a state of the art giant screen in its SportsDirect.com Park gound.
The project began after officials met Italian company Tifosy at a convention. Tifosy surveyed Athletic fans to gauge interest and a giant screen - or at least a scoreboard - was the wish.
Last night ex-Chelsea and Italy striker and Tifosy director Gianluca Vialli came to Oldham to add flair to the project launch.
The company has raised big money at other clubs home and abroad: Portsmouth’s campaign brought £270,000 for a new training academy.
And while supporters are being asked to contribute, it’s not a something-for-nothing deal. Fans will receive rewards linked to the amount donated - items ranging from certificates and wristbands to attending training sessions, meeting the players or being a guest in the new North Stand boardroom.
Athletic have been without a working electronic scoreboard for over a decade, with the previous incarnation officially decommissioned at the Rochdale Road End in 2008.
