Millwall Talking Points
Date published: 03 May 2016
FLIP-FLOPS AND BEACH TOWELS: It’s a little harsh to suggest minds were elsewhere. Athletic improved as the game went on and should have scored at least once. But there was the feeling that previous efforts drained some of the extra ‘zip’.
THOSE CHANCES: It’s a good job that for Athletic, this game didn’t count towards remaining in League One for next season. Or else Jonathan Forte would have nightmares about failing to score when unmarked six yards out. Dominic Poleon’s incredible miss from even closer probably wouldn’t have changed the result, but it proved that Athletic were never going to score at The Den.
PITCH INVASION: Why a pitch invasion is necessary when there is still a home play-off game to come is one question. Why Millwall fans felt it necessary to goad players and travelling fans in such numbers, with one appearing to slap Anthony Gerrard before racing to safety, is another. It was utterly, utterly pathetic.
