GOAL . . . Josh Law
ATHLETIC 2, SHREWSBURY 3
TEN-MAN Athletic went down to a first home league defeat despite taking the lead in a controversial game.
Josh Law's 24th-minute free-kick pushed the hosts in front but after skipper Peter Clarke was held in the box without sanction, Shrewsbury hit back and levelled with Junior Brown's header two minutes before half-time.
The visitors were the better side at that stage and won a 50th-minute penalty in a similar incident to Clarke's, as Charles Dunne was penalised for holding Ivan Toney in the area. Toney got up to stroke his spot-kick past Connor Ripley.
Joe Riley made it 3-1, firing a smart finish past Ripley when afforded space in the box after 62 minutes, before Ousmane Fane was sent off seven minutes later after picking up a second yellow card.
Lee Erwin pulled a goal back when rifling home through bodies when a corner was not cleared.
Athletic knocked on the door for an equaliser and Freddie Ladapo hit the crossbar two minutes into added time from an Ollie Banks cross.
