Roughyeds bow for young hopefuls

THREE young hopefuls, two of them teenagers, will make their Oldham RL Club debuts in the under-20s side to face South Wales Scorpions at Whitebank on Saturday.
In the first home game of the season all eyes will be on prop Danny Hurley (18), a product of local amateurs Waterhead, and two new half-backs, 17-year-old Jack Morgan and new signing Sam Singleton.
Roughyeds moved quickly to snare 20-year-old Singleton when he was released by Leigh, and he goes straight into the side against the Welshmen.
Morgan, formerly with Warrington Wolves academy, has been training at Oldham for several weeks, waiting for his opportunity.
Coach Phil Costin will settle on his line-up at training tonight, and he will go for his youngest side to date because there will be no first-team players available.
He said: “The Welsh are an unknown quantity, but they put up a good show in defeat at Salford, who are the strongest side in the competition.
“We look forward to the challenge.”
