YOUTH FOTBALL:

LEADERS Uppermill and reigning champions Harpurhey United were locked together at 1-1 in the under-14s division of the North Manchester Girls League.

Ellen Bergin put ’Mill in front, and the two teams went on to waste numerous chances before slack defending allowed United to equalise.

ROCS FC under-14s came out on top 4-2 in an entertaining encounter against Oldham Athletic.

Abby Bennett (two), Alys Wild and Ashleigh Spragg weighed in with the ROCS goals, while Caprice McSharry replied.

Lauren Steel went nap and Rhema Mears helped herself to four as the under-15s swept aside Uppermill 12-0. Also on target were Danielle Pickett (two) and Shona Ninian.

The club’s under-16s were also among the goals against Heyside Angels Clarets.

They won 10-1 thanks to Faye Hardicre’s four-goal salvo, a Bethany Ormrod hat-trick, two from Megan Jackson and an Amy Ginty effort.

ALISHA Brooker scored the consolation goal for Oldham Athletic under-11s in a 3-1 defeat by Heyside Blues.

Athletic under-12s, with Tia Jackson and Lauren Fallon on the mark, picked up a point in a 2-2 draw against Uppermill.

And a treble from Jessica Bevan, plus a Fieruz Abdullah brace, secured a 5-2 victory for the under-14s over Chadderton Park.

KELLY Ward, with a double hat-trick, was the star of the show as Heyside Angels Clarets under-14s proved too strong for Rochdale Ladies.

Beth Ward hit four, Abbie Porter got two and Sarah Hardman bagged the other in the 13-0 triumph.

The Blues also collected maximum points after a 3-1 defeat of Denton Girls. Leoni Harland (two) and Sophie Chester got the goals.

Hayley Tomlinson (two) and Alix Sephton scored for Angels Blues under-13s in a 3-1 win over Unicorn Athletic.

Tanisha Williams netted the only goal of the game for Heyside Angels Inter against Denton Girls, and Alicia Stretton’s double was enough to secure a 2-0 win for Angels Clarets against Middleton Girls.

Angels under-11s also had two reasons to celebrate.

The Blues, with Antonia Keogh (two) and Ellie Morrison on the mark, defeated Denton Girls 3-1 and the Whites, with Ella Rigby, Lavinia Whitehead, Molly Taylor, Katie Halligan and Emily Kay on the scoresheet, overcame Harpurhey Angels 5-0.

AVRO Juniors under-14s are through to the East Manchester League’s Primary Cup final for the third consecutive year after a hard-fought 2-1 win over Brendon Bees.

A penalty from Nathan Brooks and a goal from man-of-the-match Daniel Lindley put the local outfit in control, before their opponents replied. But Avro held firm to claim a place in the final.

Cup stroll for OIdham

OLDHAM under-14s are through to the last eight of the Greater Manchester Schools’ League’s Talbot Cup after a convincing 3-0 win against Tameside at the Lancaster Club.

The town team went in front after 12 minutes through Greg Street, of Blue Coat, and doubled their tally before the mid-way point of the first half thanks to a Tom Scullion (Failsworth) strike.

Oldham were hardly threatened after the break and added a third courtesy of another Scullion effort.

Next up are Trafford or Macclesfield.

Oldham under-15s’ County Cup last-eight tie against Manchester was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
