STUDENTS had a rare chance to learn about the film industry first hand when they quizzed Oldham-born film director Steve Jamison.
He discussed his career with pupils from the Oldham Academy North and three other Greater Manchester Schools. The event, at the National Football Museum in Manchester, also included a screening of his documentary Next Goal Wins which follows American Samoa - officially the world’s worst football team - as they try to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The event was organised by the education charity Into Film as part of its Opening Minds, Transforming Lives project for disadvantaged young people in Greater Manchester. The project uses film and related activities to broaden their horizons, bring them into contact with different people and make them aware of all opportunities available to them.

Steve said: “It was great chatting with the young people who came along to see the film. The greatest thing about making a documentary is discovering new people, places or ideas."
Into Film is also working in partnership with Oldham-based youth arts organisation Peshkar Productions to providing new opportunities for young people to learn about film-making.
