NEW Werneth professional Humayun Farhat is causing quite a Lake Garage CLL stir down at the Coppice.
The 28-year-old Pakistani joined Werneth last month following intended pro Roelof van der Merwe’s return to South Africa after the Twenty20 World Cup in England.
And he has already made quite an impact with his cavalier approach to batting.
“You certainly wouldn’t want to take your eyes off him,” admitted Werneth cricket chairman Adie McMahon.
Anyone who did so last Friday night would have missed some crunching hits during a 45-ball knock of 99 which paved the way for Werneth’s John Willie Lees Twenty20 Competition quarter-final victory over Crompton.
Farhat has also scored quickfire knocks of 133 and 63 in regulation CLL matches and has chipped in with important wickets, including six for 82 on his debut against league leaders Heywood.
He joined Werneth from Lancashire County League side Cheetham Hill, who released him from his contract after running into financial difficulties.
UNSWORTH professional Wayne Madsen wrote his name into the Derbyshire history books this week.
The 25-year-old South African made his debut for the county against Gloucestershire at Cheltenham and made a stunning unbeaten 170 in his team’s second-innings 323 for six declared.
It was the highest score by a Derbyshire debutant, surpassing the 155 Peter Bowler made against Cambridge University in 1988.
TALKING of run-scoring achievements, Monton and Weaste’s Paul Green passed the 1,000-mark for the season in the CLL when he scored 84 for Monton and Weaste in their John Willie Lees Wood Cup semi-final victory over Unsworth.
Green, a solid opening batsmen who enjoyed plenty of success in the Lancashire County League before joining Monton, has compiled some amazing statistics this season.
In the 18 innings which included his cup semi-final knock, he reached 1,010 runs at an average of 101.
He was not out eight times which underlines his appetite for staying at the crease to complete the job for his side.
