Heyside eye winning send-off

CRICKET: ROELOF Hugo will look to go out with a bang when he plays his last game for Heyside tomorrow.

The South African professional, who has served the Little Hey Street outfit so well, says goodbye after the Twenty20 Cup final at home to Saddleworth.

The wicketkeeper batsman was due to return home last Monday — the club’s overseas amateur Bromwell Godea has already left these shores — but changed his flight to accommodate the rearranged the showdown.

Paying tribute to Hugo, Heyside secretary Steven Firth said: “Roelof always maintained that a pro should leave a club after two years, but we managed to persuade him to stay for five, so we’ve done quite well.

“He’s been a great servant and deserves all our thanks.

“We all wish him the best of luck, and he will always be welcome at the club.”

Saddleworth are hoping to deny Heyside a hat-trick of Twenty20 titles in the competition, sponsored by 20-20 Vision, of Uppermill.

But Steven Howard’s men need to improve on last weekend’s set of results when they lost to Friarmere and Glodwick in the league.

They follow-up with a trip to basement boys Moorside on the final day of the season.

It is an important game for Saddleworth as they attempt to repel Friarmere’s late bid for a place in the top five.

Shaw can also be caught by the West View team, who are at home to Droylsden.

Fixtures: Tomorrow, Twenty20 Cup final (2pm): Heyside v Saddleworth.

Sunday (1pm): Friarmere v Droylsden; Glodwick v Uppermill; Greenfield v Hollinwood; Moorside v Saddleworth; Shaw v Austerlands; Stayley v Bamford Fieldhouse. Open date: Heyside.
