Ellis on track for fifth title
Date published: 19 September 2014
BOWLS: GARY Ellis was today bidding to equal the record of crown green bowling’s greatest ever player.
Brian Duncan won the Waterloo Handicap title five times, a record many thought would never be matched.
But if Nimble Nook and Tonge star Ellis comes out on top today, he will do just that.
Ellis booked his place in the quarter-finals with a dramatic 21-20 defeat of Liverpool’s Mike Tunstall.
But Ellis’s friend and team-mate Matt Gillies bowed out, 21-15, at the hands of Castleford’s Craig Newton.
