CRICKET: SADDLEWORTH put down a first-day marker in the 2015 SWB Commercials Saddleworth and District Cricket League with a comprehensive 146-run win over reigning champions Glodwick at Well-i-Hole.
Darren Shadford, last term’s leading amateur batsman, hit 66 and Pete Roberts made 37 in the hosts’ total of 223.
Glodwick, without skipper Franco Lenhardt because of a hand injury, were 26 for three and then 36 for five, before succumbing to 77 all out in the 24th over. Saddleworth professional Imran Aslam took four for 21.
Captain Danny Anchor struck an unbeaten 90 and claimed three for 14 as Moorside beat Friarmere by 145 runs at Slack Lane, while Stayley’s new paid man, Hamza Nadeem, picked up six for 37 in his side’s 47-run victory at Uppermill.
