RUGBY league legends Keiron Cunningham and Sean Long could dust off their boots and come out of retirement for a testimonial game for former Oldham and Swinton player Tony Barrow.
The 43 year old from Thatto Heath, St Helens has been diagnosed with cancer. He is the son of Tony Barrow senior, Oldham head coach from 1988-91.
Tony is fighting an aggressive form of the disease. Friends and family have rallied round to raise money for any treatment.
Long-time friend Terry Moran has helped organise the game, alongside Cunningham’s brother Steve and Martin Ford. His former team-mates will take on the Thatto Heath Masters and has already attracted a long list of former players, including Gary Connolly, Bobbie Goulding, Mick Cassidy and Andy Craig.
Moran said: “I’ve known Tony since we both turned out for the under-15s at Thatto Heath. The list of players who said they will turn up is a mark of respect. They all want to offer their support.”
Tony has two daughters, Megan (18) and Lucy (15), and a partner, Anne Marie (32).
The testimonial match is at Thatto Heath Crusaders in Close Street on July 4. There are Facebook and Twitter pages dedicated to the testimonial for updates.
