CAUGHT AT SLIP: Heyside’s Shadley van Schalkwyk edges a Michael Harling delivery and is caught
CRICKET: HEYSIDE are out of the JW Lees Bitter Wood Cup after succumbing to Rochdale for the second time at the weekend.
Only 48 hours after losing at Redbrook in the CLL’S T20 Competition, Heyside suffered an identical fate in the league’s 50-over knockout.
Heyside were never on an even keel after batting first and seeing wickets fall regularly.
In a rain-interrupted innings, they were dismissed for 159, skipper Ryan Barnes top scoring with 36. Michael Harling took three for 37, including the vital wickets of professional Shadley van Schalkwyk for 13.
Rochdale were in a hurry to book their semi-final place, racing to 163 for two. John Henderson (26) and Dominic Ayres (43) gave Rochdale a flying start and the unbeaten Wensley Lansdale (56) and Marradon Bend (29) did the rest to wreck Heyside’s hopes of a successful first foray in the competition.
