Police are appealing for witnesses to a collision in Oldham that left an 80-year-old man in hospital.

A white VW van was travelling along Heron Street in Werneth at around 8.35am on Friday 8 September. When it approached the junction with Wellington Road, it collided with an 80-year-old man who was crossing the road.

The man suffered, what were initially believed to be minor injuries, but he was taken to hospital where he deteriorated and is now being treated for serious injuries.

Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Police Constable Paul Hailwood, GMP Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “My thoughts are with the man’s family at this distressing time and we have specially trained officers offering them support.

“Whilst we appreciate that the collision occurred over a week ago we are asking anyone saw the collision, or anyone who was driving in the area at the time and has dash-cam footage, to come forward.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
