Construction starts on historical site at Lancaster Gardens, Failsworth

Construction has started at Lancaster Gardens in Failsworth. The site, which is located off Broadway, is 13.7 acres in size and will be transformed by the housebuilder into a desirable residential development.

Bellway will build a range of 148 three and four bedroom homes at Lancaster Gardens, offering a mix of semi-detached and detached houses.

The development also incorporates the Grade II listed Failsworth Lodge building, more commonly referred to as the ‘Lancaster Club’, which will be converted into one and two bedroom apartments.

To celebrate the start of construction, Councillor Jean Stretton, the Leader of Oldham Council, joined Louise Chamberlain on site for the occasion.

Louise Chamberlain, sales director at Bellway Homes, comments: “Lancaster Gardens is an exciting development; it is the combination of a charming conversion project of a building that dates back to 1770 with the delivery of well-designed, high quality new build homes.”

Councillor Stretton said: “Lancaster Gardens is a prestigious development in Oldham and we are very proud of Bellway Homes’ plans. The provision of 148 executive homes is very much welcomed.

“Furthermore, the conversion of the Lancaster Club has been carefully considered, ensuring the historical building remains protected yet enhanced, and the aesthetics of the site and its heritage retained.

“It is excellent news that work is now under way.

"The Council is thrilled to have a well-established company such as Bellway Homes invest in the Borough, not only delivering new build homes but also creating local jobs.”
