Five masked thieves smashed through a glass door during an armed robbery in Oldham.

The men forced entry to the at the Blue Belle pub on Rochdale Road in Royton using a crowbar before stealing keys, cash and jewellery.

The offenders proceeded to smash through a glass door to a residential area where they threatened a couple for money.

The victims, a 22-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman, managed to barricade their bedroom door and call the police at which point the thieves fled the scene. They were not injured.

Police have released CCTV footage of the incident, which took place on on Monday 9 October, and are appealing for anyone who may have any information.

Detective Constable Madaleine Atherton, of GMP’s Oldham borough, said: “This was a heinous attack in the early hours of the morning as a couple were in bed. It obviously terrified them to find five masked men smashing through a door and they were extremely brave managing to barricade themselves in a room.

“We are doing all we can to catch the men responsible and have now released CCTV footage in the hope that someone might recognise the men or their distinctive clothing.

“If you recognise anything from the CCTV or know something that could assist with our investigation then I would urge you to get in touch so that we can bring the men who carried out this attack to justice.
