Light Up a Life remembers loved ones who are no longer with us
Dr Kershaw’s Hospice hosted its ever-popular Light Up a Life event at the weekend when hundreds of supporters took part in a moving service that remembers loved ones who are no longer with us.
The service, led by Dr Kershaw’s spiritual care coordinator Pauline Brierley, included songs by Thornham St James School choir and Peter Wakefield, readings by staff members and carols led by the Salvation Army band with around 400 people in attendance.
The ceremony ended with the first lighting of the Kershaw’s Christmas tree, festooned with lights that have been dedicated to individuals – a major fundraising initiative for the hospice.
Earlier in the week, Oldham Parish Church was packed for the hospice’s annual Carol Concert that featured Kershaw’s Crooners, Hope Singers, Lydgate Band and soloists, Elizabeth Phillips and Harry Priestley.
The congregation joined in with a series of carols and a special rendition of Kershaw’s 12 days of Christmas in which sections sang each verse. Mayor of Oldham Councillor Shadab Qumer was particularly to the fore leading his singers in 'four recliner chairs'.
The evening was organised by musical maestro Paul Firth.
