Woman seriously hurt in collision with a lorry

A woman was seriously hurt when she was involved in a collision with a lorry on Oldham Road (A62) outside the Aldi supermarket at 3.45pm on Tuesday (19 December).

The articulated lorry was travelling along Oldham Road, away from Manchester City Centre, when it stopped at a red traffic light at the junction with Ash Street.

As the lights changed, the lorry began moving again but was involved in a collision with a pedestrian.

Emergency services attended and the pedestrian, a woman in her 70s, was taken to hospital where she remains with serious injuries to her ankle and wrist.

Witnesses to the collision are encouraged to come forward.

Police Constable John Harrison-Gough of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Due to the size of the vehicle involved, I’m sure it would have attracted a lot of attention from people in the area at the time; it’s a busy junction so there would have been plenty of motorists and pedestrians around – if you were one of them, please get in touch with us.

“We’re really keen to gather as much information as we can as well as dashcam footage so, if you have it in your car, please take a look at it around the time of the collision and call us so we can examine it.”

The family of the injured woman want to express their thanks: “We would like to thank the staff at Showman’s Dentist for looking after our mum until ourselves and the emergency services arrived.”
