Fires on hills above Dovestone brought under control
Date published: 19 April 2018
Firefighters last night (Thursday) managed to bring the blaze on moorland above Dovestones Reservoir in Saddleworth under control.
Engines from Mossley, Chadderton, Hollins and Bury, and even an all-terrain vehicle from Bolton, were called to the scene shortly before 3pm.
Earlier, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said the blaze measured an area of around 800mx800m.
They had urged people to avoid the area around Bank Lane, Greenfield, while they tackled the fire.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
A large plume of smoke could be seen rising from the flames from across the region.
It comes as temperatures in parts of Greater Manchester yesterday hit 26C.
