Large scale disturbance in Piccadilly Gardens

A number of police officers were deployed to Piccadilly Gardens last night
Police were called to reports of a large disturbance in Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester last night (Tuesday), involving men suspected of carrying weapons.
Due to the nature of the report, a number of officers were deployed to the scene at around 8.30pm, including armed officers in their capacity as first aid specialists.
Two men were arrested at the scene – one on suspicion of affray and the other on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon. Both remain in custody.
A woman was found with injuries in the area. However, it is not currently believed she sustained them as a result of this incident.
Enquiries are ongoing and at this time officers do not believe this incident was connected to the England vs Colombia World Cup fixture.
