Predator caged following sex with 15-year-old girl

A Manchester man who had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old Oldham girl has been jailed for three years.

Ribaz Aziz Raza, aged 34, of Symond Road, Manchester, was sentenced yesterday (Wednesday) at Minshull Street Crown Court after pleading guilty to sexual activity with a child.

The court heard how Raza – who was 33 at the time - met the teenager in the summer of 2017 in Oldham when she had recently turned 15.

The pair struck up a friendship before the relationship became sexual in nature.

He was arrested in December last year where he admitted to officers that he had had sex with the teenager despite knowing her age, but when the pair initially met he was told she was 18.

Detective Constable Andy Barrett, from GMP’s Oldham Phoenix Team, said: “Raza knew the victim was a child and continued his relationship with her despite this.

“He knew what he was doing was completely aware of how vulnerable this young girl was and preyed on that.

“Thanks to the work of officers and partners, Raza is now in prison where he belongs.”

Greater Manchester Police is part of a multi-agency response which is tackling Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE).

Project Phoenix is a unique collaboration of public and third sector partners throughout Greater Manchester that aspires to be national leaders in protecting young people and prosecute offenders.

It aims to raise awareness of child sexual exploitation, help people recognise the signs, encourage people to report it and provide support to victims and those most at risk.
