Emmaus Mossley to host inspiring Recycle Week event

Date published: 18 September 2018

Homelessness charity Emmaus Mossley is celebrating Recycle Week 2018 – 24-to-30 September – by hosting a series of workshops and demonstrations leading up to their Reduce, Reuse & Recycle Day.

The Reduce, Reuse & Recycle Day event will take place on Saturday 29 September, featuring displays of reclaimed items and inspiration for reusing old items within the home.

The event will include a sale of great value pre-owned, upcycled and vintage products, stalls outdoors and the official launch of a new project space at Emmaus.

Hazel Hodkinson, Shop Manager at Emmaus Mossley, said: “Reducing household waste and giving items a second (or third, or fourth) life is a big part of what the Emmaus Mossley social enterprise is all about.

“Our Recycle Week activities will culminate in a day-long event where we will officially launch a new space containing a host of salvaged products and materials at low prices that may otherwise have been sent to landfill.”

Now in its 15th year, Recycle Week is a celebration of recycling, organised by WRAP under the Recycle Now brand.

The aim of the week is to encourage the public to recycle more, by demonstrating the benefits of recycling items from all around the home.

This year’s focus will be on plastics under a theme of 'Recycling. We do. Because it matters.’

Companions – formerly homeless people who live and work at Emmaus – with staff and volunteers will prepare the superstore with unique displays and inspiration to present the best of what Emmaus Mossley has to offer.

Emmaus Mossley supports 26 formerly homeless people by providing them with a home and work in a community setting.

The charity runs a social enterprise in Mossley, selling donated and upcycled furniture, household goods and vintage wares.

The ‘Reduce, Reuse & Recycle Day’ event will take place on Saturday 29 September from 9am at Emmaus Mossley, Longlands Mill, Queen Street, Mossley OL5 9AH.

A selection of food, drinks and cakes will be available throughout the day along with poetry and live music.

In the run up to the event Emmaus Mossley will be running a poster competition for local young people and an Upcycled Wedding Dress Competition.

The winners of both of these contests will be announced at the Reduce, Reuse & Recycle Day event.
