The elderly female Yorkshire terrier was found bleeding heavily from her wound on a field near Hollinwood Cemetery - just off Lime Road, in Oldham.

A member of the public came across the terrified dog on Thursday (14th) at about 2.30pm. He took her home and wrapped her in a blanket and alerted the RSPCA.

Inspector Angela Paxton-Taylor went to collect the poorly dog and rushed her to a vet where she was found to have a number of large mammary masses - one of which was larger than a tennis ball and ulcerated.

A vet decided the kindest thing to do was to put the dog to sleep to end her suffering.

She also had cataracts in one eye and had long claws which suggest she hasn’t been walked for sometime.

Inspector Paxton-Taylor is now appealing for information to find out who abandoned the dying dog.

She said: “I would like to find the callous person responsible for discarding this poorly dog like a piece of rubbish in her hour of need.

“She must have been suffering terribly looking at the masses on her stomach and she was very thin.

“It is disgusting that she was left to get in this terrible state and then for the defenceless pet to be left abandoned must have been terrifying for her.

“I am just grateful to the member of the public who found her but now am keen to trace anyone who knows who owned the dog.”

Anyone with information should call the RSPCA appeals line on 0300 123 8018.
