Tameside Magistrates Court heard how 19-year old Arron Scholes, from Grasscroft in Oldham, had been watching England’s World Cup game against Tunisia prior to attacking 21-year old Robert Kemper.

It’s understood the pair had got into a ‘boozy row’, which took place outside the Granby Arms pub on High Street in Uppermill following the match with Scholes punching his victim twice in the face, leaving him with a bloodied and bruised face.

The court was told it was an unprovoked attack.

Scholes, who’s currently a Sports Marketing and Management student at Manchester Metropolitan University, denied assaulting Mr Kemper but a judge at Tameside Crown Court didn’t believe him, finding him guilty of one count of assault.

The 19-year old, who arrived at court with his father Paul, who had recently resigned as manager of Oldham Athletic after only a month in charge, is due to be sentenced later this month with the judge warning him he’s likely to receive a community penalty, such as unpaid work.
