Devastated mum pays tribute to ‘much loved son’ after Oldham stabbing

The devastated mum of Joe O’Brien, who died after being stabbed during a fight outside an Oldham pub, has paid an emotional tribute to him.

The 24-year old was attacked, along with two other men, outside the Royal Oak Hotel in Failsworth at around 3am on Easter Sunday morning, he suffered serious stab wounds and was rushed to hospital where he died a short time later.

Paying tribute to Joe, his mother Roz McDonald, said: “Joe was a much loved son, brother, grandson, uncle, nephew and friend to many.”

“He was hard working and had a great sense of humour. He was kind and generous, both with his time and with his money.”

“His friends, his family and Manchester United were his life.”

“Joe worked as a barrister’s clerk at Deans Court Chambers in Manchester and he loved this job.”

“The majority of Joe’s time was spent either with his friends, or caring for his mother, who he always put first.”

Two people have been arrested in connection with Joe’s death, a 22-year old man remains in custody on suspicion of murder while a 17-year old boy has been questioned on suspicion of attempted murder.
