Oldham comedy legend Bobby Ball to get statue

Date published: 09 December 2020

For many years it had been one of his jokes that he’d like to remembered with a statue in Lytham, well now Bobby Ball is going to get his wish following his death earlier this year.

The Oldham-born comedy legend moved to the town 25-years ago.

Fylde Council have now voted for a statue of Bobby to be erected outside the town’s theatre, however a date for when this would take place hasn’t been released.

Fylde Council’s leader Karen Buckley said: “This statue will ensure he can go on giving joy to the area and visitors long after he took his final bow.”

Bobby, who’s real name was Robert Harper, passed away back in October fat the age of 76 following complications involving Covid-19.

He shot to stardom after becoming famous alongside his comedy sidekick Tommy Cannon.

The pair would go on to become one of the biggest names in showbiz during the 1980’s while playing the working men’s clubs and rose to star in their own ITV Saturday night show.

Bobby dropped from the spotlight in the 1990’s but was back on our screens in Lee Mack’s BBC sitcom Not Going Out, where he played the fellow comic’s father.
