Oldham duo release single to raise awareness of Age UK in the town

Date published: 24 December 2020

A music duo born and raised in Oldham have released a Christmas single to help raise the profile of Age UK Oldham.

Sam Hewitt and Sophie Jones - known ast "Undecided" met whilst performing in a theatre show with Brit Theatre School in Oldham.

The song called "Autumn Leaves" is available for streaming and download now.

Samm and Sophie were inspired by the story of Terrence, who received a visit from Oldham College students last year after talking about his experience of loneliness at Christmas.  Terrence became a national celebrity after the story was featured on BBC Breakfast.

Sophie - who was part of the choir who sang Christmas carols with the college - and Terrence have kept in touch since last year and says the experience with Age UK Oldham helped inspire the song.

The duo teamed up to write the song, and a share of the proceeds will go to Age UK Oldham.

"Terrence was an inspiration", Sophie told the Chronicle.  "The whole experience inspried me to change career paths from performing arts to healthcare.  I've now landed a job at Rochdale Infirmary as a healthcare assistant."

As well as releasing the song, both Samm and Sophie have been involved in delivering letters and word searches to the elderly.

Says Samm: "We'd really appreciate it so much if it could be heard by the masses, and maybe influence others to step in and help Age UK Oldham to spread their Christmas spirit; to put a smile on people's faces and lend a hand to those who need it most.

The song is available on major streaming services and for download for 99p.  Links to social media can be found here.
