Infrastructure works commence for latest tenant at Hollinwood Junction

Infrastructure works have begun at the £35m Hollinwood Junction regeneration project in Oldham to facilitate the newest arrival to the scheme.

Contractor I&H Brown will deliver a £2m package of works to unlock the site previously blighted by a large redundant gas holder.

The infrastructure scheme, comprising two new roundabouts, site entrance road, drainage and associated works will allow the construction of a new drive-through store for Costa Coffee to commence at the site’s first development plot once planning approval has been secured.

A planning application has been submitted and if approved, construction of the store would begin in late spring, with work expected to complete in the autumn.

Hollinwood Junction, a partnership between Oldham Council and Langtree, is expected to create a total of 760 jobs and incorporate retail, leisure, employment and up to 150 family homes.

The site sits adjacent to junction 22 of the M60, south west of Oldham town centre.

Commenting on the latest phase of development, Councillor Sean Fielding, Leader of Oldham Council and Cabinet Member for Economy and Skills, said: “This is another exciting milestone for Hollinwood Junction and our wider Creating a Better Place regeneration vision.

“We look forward to seeing work progress and much-needed new jobs and opportunities being created for the area.”

John Downes, group chief executive at Langtree, said: “Our contractor has very thorough safe working protocols in place for the site and hopefully as we begin to return to a more normal situation later this year as the vaccination programme picks up speed, developments such as Hollinwood will help the Oldham economy drive forward once again and create vital new jobs.”
