Greater Manchester Police have praised members of the public who went to the assistance of a lone officer who had been confronted by ‘hostile’ youths at Shaw Metrolink stop.
A post on the GMP Royton and Shaw Facebook page read: “A big thanks to the members of the public who didn't just get their phones out and instead last night tried to help a Transport Unit officer who was on his own and surrounded by a hostile group of youths as he detained an 18-year-old at Crompton/Shaw metrolink stop.”
Officers from the Transport Unit have been out and about patrolling across the public transport network in the freezing weather.
Locations included Wythenshawe, Trafford, Oldham, Rochdale and Ashton, where groups of youths causing anti-social behaviour were dispersed.
