Greater Manchester Police have declared a major incident in Denton.

It follows a large scale fire at a warehouse on Holland Street, which is believed to have started this afternoon.

Emergency services are in attendance and Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service are currently tackling the blaze.

As a precaution, an evacuation procedure has been put in place for those in the vicinity.

Residents in the surrounding areas are advised to keep doors and windows closed and the public are asked to avoid the area.

Traffic diversions have been put in place. The M67 was closed between Denton and Denton Island, though the westbound carriageway has now reopened.

Superintendent Natalie Dixon of Greater Manchester Police, said: “We currently have an evacuation procedure in place to ensure all those in the vicinity of the fire are kept safe. All those required to evacuate will be contacted by police and we ask that no one leaves their house unless otherwise instructed.

“We are urging all those in the local area to keep their doors and windows closed to ensure they are better protected from any smoke inhalation.

“We are also asking the public to avoid the area where possible.”
